book review: white nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky thoughts and reviews
this was simply beautiful.
fable review:
This short story has to be the most beautifully crafted piece of work i have laid my big set of eyes on. Truthfully one of most the gorgeous love stories i’ve ever know. My heart aches.
White nights by fyodor dostoevsky
This book has to honestly be one of the most beautiful almost love stories there is. I sat in my chair, wondering what has taken me so long to pick up one of his works. Granted I just recently started reading and truly grasping classics, I just had no idea that they could be this heartfelt and touching-
Dostoevsky has an original and beautiful way of describing the feelings he goes through in white nights. Just the amount quotes I have highlighted in a simple short story, is simply unknown and not normal.
“There is something inexpressibly touching in nature round Petersburg, when at the approach of spring she puts forth all her might, all the powers bestowed on her by Heaven, when she breaks into leaf, decks herself out and spangles herself with flowers....”
“the momentary beauty has faded so soon never to return, that it flashed upon you so treacherously, so vainly, grieve because you had not even time to love her....”
“openly.... I don't know how to be silent when my heart is speaking.”
The simple excitement I have to pick up another novel by him, is so blatantly obvious. He is slowly making a spot in my top authors which is big to me, because I only have 2…
If you are a romantic and a fan of classics. This one is a must to pick up and devour. With waves of quotes you’d love for an eternity and twinkles of lessons you can input in a daily life.
It now makes sense when people say “I’m a Dostoevsky girl.”
I think I might be adding myself into the club. Maybe even working my way up into a director spot.
More quotes from White Nights
“have so little real life that I look upon such moments as this now, as so rare, that I cannot help going over such moments again in my dreams. I shall be dreaming of you all night, a whole week, a whole year. I shall certainly come here to-morrow, just here to this place, just at the same hour, and I shall be happy remembering to-day.”
“You describe it all splendidly, but couldn't you perhaps describe it a little less splendidly? You talk as though you were reading it out of a book."
“At this moment, Nastenka, when we have met at last after such a long separation—for I have known you for ages, Nastenka, because I have been looking for some one for ages, and that is a sign that it was you I was looking for, and it was ordained that we should meet now—at this moment a thousand valves have opened in my head, and I must let myself flow in a river of words, or I shall choke. And so I beg you not to interrupt me, Nastenka, but listen humbly and obediently, or I will be silent."
If you are to take anything from this post, please pick up this book if it seems any of interest. It truly made me feel so many emotions. So heartfelt.

What is White Nights about?:
“White Nights is a short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky that was published in 1848. Set in St. Petersburg, it is the story of a young man fighting his inner restlessness. A light and tender narrative, it delves into the torment and guilt of unrequited love. Both protagonists suffer from a deep sense of alienation that initially brings them together. A blend of romanticism and realism, the story appeals gently to the senses and feelings.”
